Cloud City is a reaction to two major problems in housing: rising prices and urban sprawl. As more and more people move into cities, housing prices are driven up. Consequently, affordable homes are pushed further and further away from city centers, resulting in urban sprawl as infrastructure is built to accommodate such changes. Cloud City introduces a new solution to making use of space: building above the existing city. Very little land space is used, and new residential communities are generated without disrupting the existing urban landscape. The idea is to establish a fully interconnected residential environment above the city roads; a second level of the city.
